The Law of Timely Sufficiency
There is a natural law by which everything you truly need comes to you at the time you need it – not too early and not too late.
There is a natural law by which everything you truly need comes to you at the time you need it - not too early and not too late. I call this the Law of Timely Sufficiency. It works in concert with your faith and inspired action. When you trust this law, you cease to worry about whether you will have “enough” - enough resources, enough time, enough help - and you focus on doing today’s part in the creative process. By doing what you can now and trusting that what you need next will be provided, you move forward with calm assurance.
Many people either rush frantically, trying to force outcomes before the conditions are ripe, or they hesitate and procrastinate out of fear that they lack what’s necessary to begin. Both attitudes violate the Law of Timely Sufficiency. The truth is that the Creative Intelligence is never early or late; it is always right on time. The universe operates with perfect precision. Your role is not to hurl yourself into premature action out of anxiety, nor to hold back when action is called for; your role is to sense the right timing of things and to trust that what is needed will appear when truly required. This law might be summed up as: Do today all that can be done today, and be confident that tomorrow’s supply will appear tomorrow.
In practicing this, you will find a sweet spot of effort. On one hand, you do everything you can in the present - you make the phone calls, you create the product, you seek the opportunities that can be acted upon now. You push against the limits of today with energy and purpose. But on the other hand, you do only what can be done today - you do not try to do what only tomorrow can bring. You do not overwork to the point of diminishing returns or burnout in a fearful attempt to “make things happen.” You also do not fret about things that are currently beyond your control, such as how every detail of a complex plan will unfold months from now. You have faith that by the time those tomorrow - tasks become today - tasks, the way to accomplish them will be clear and the means will be at hand.
This approach requires patience and faith in equal measure. Patience, because some processes need time to mature (just as a seed needs time to grow - watering it twice as often won’t make it sprout faster). Faith, because you must believe that while you are advancing toward your goal, the goal is also advancing toward you, even if you cannot see its movement yet. The Law of Timely Sufficiency assures that when you and your goal meet, all that is necessary will be present. Often, you can look back and marvel at how perfectly the needed people, ideas, or funds showed up just when you required them - and not a moment sooner. Recognizing this pattern will reinforce your willingness to let things unfold in their proper order.
It is also crucial to banish worry about future insufficiency. Worrying that you might lack something vital down the line is essentially praying for what you do not want. It’s a misuse of your imagination and will send confusing signals to the Creative Intelligence. Instead, make it a practice to affirm, whenever you catch yourself worrying: “I will always have what I need to take the next step. Life is supporting me in perfect timing.” This statement aligns you with the truth. In reality, you are alive today and you have had sufficient for all your past days - you are still here! The same Creative Power that sustained you thus far will continue to do so. Trust it.
The Law of Timely Sufficiency also teaches you not to envy or compare your journey with that of others. Perhaps someone else seems to have achieved milestones faster or received resources earlier than you. That is irrelevant to your path. They are on their timeline, and you are on yours. The Creative Intelligence arranges sufficiency in a personalized way for each person’s purpose. Keep your focus on your own work and maintain the faith that what you need will come at the right time for you. Your story is unique. Often, delays or different pacing are working out to your advantage in ways you cannot yet see. By embracing your current stage and extracting its full value, you prepare yourself to receive the bounty of the next stage.
One more aspect of timely sufficiency: it encourages balanced living. When you trust that “tomorrow will have its own provisions,” you allow yourself to rest when the day’s work is done. You do not need to drive yourself mercilessly out of fear of lack. Likewise, you can enjoy the journey - take breaks, spend time with loved ones, appreciate simple pleasures - because you know that sufficiency is a law, and you won’t miss out by living in harmony with it. This balanced approach actually makes your creative output more sustainable and effective. A mind that has had proper rest and joy can hear intuition better and seize opportunities more readily.
In summary, remember that the creative life is not a mad scramble; it is a steady progression. As long as you do all you can with what you have today, you can walk forward in confidence that your steps will be supported. Whenever a new requirement arises, a new solution will be provided - often seemingly just in the nick of time, yet precisely when needed. The universe operates by the principle of “sufficient unto the day is the good thereof.” Live by this principle. Replace worry with trust, and frantic effort with faithful effort. By obeying the Law of Timely Sufficiency, you walk in pace with the Creative Intelligence, and thus you will always find yourself abundantly supplied.
Immediate Action
If you have been feeling overwhelmed by the scope of a goal, sit down and divide your plan into clearly defined daily or weekly steps. Commit to completing what is on today’s list, and consciously release concern about later steps. This trains you to focus on what can be done now and to trust the future to provide its own opportunities and resources.
The next time you notice yourself thinking “I don’t have enough time” or “I’m running out of X,” immediately counter that thought with an affirmation of sufficiency. For example: “I have time for all that is truly important and meant to be done today.” or “As I need resources, they will appear.” By affirming sufficiency, you prevent panic and open your mind to creative solutions (you might be surprised how often an apparent lack is solved in short order after you let go of worrying).
Spend a few moments in gratitude (as practiced in the previous chapter) specifically for the timely support you have received in the past. Acknowledge how things showed up at just the right moment - perhaps a mentor came when you were ready to learn, or a job offer came when you most needed it. Recognizing these instances will strengthen your faith that the same law is still in operation, ensuring you will not be left wanting when the moment of need arrives.
