Thinking in the Certain Way while Moving
Acting in the outer world should never cause you to abandon the inner pattern of thought that leads to success.
Acting in the outer world should never cause you to abandon the inner pattern of thought that leads to success. In other words, you must learn to move through your day while still thinking in the Certain Way. “Thinking in the Certain Way” means maintaining that creative, confident, purpose - driven mindset we have established - a mind unified with the Creative Intelligence, clear on its goals, and undisturbed by appearances. Doing this while you are busy with practical affairs is perhaps one of the greatest skills you can develop. It is easy to think positively and envision your success in the quiet of morning meditation; the real challenge is to carry that certainty of thought into the bustle of daily work. Yet it can be done, and doing so is a hallmark of every advancing person.
Consider this: your actions are only as effective as the thought behind them. If you allow doubt, fear, or frustration to dominate your mind while you act, you will sow those elements into your efforts, and the results will reflect them. But if you keep your inner poise and faith steady even as you tackle difficult tasks or face unforeseen challenges, you imbue your actions with a creative quality that guarantees progress. The outer person must work, but the inner person should stand guard over their thoughts. You carry your vision and faith with you into every phone call, every meeting, every routine chore, like a hidden light that guides you from within.
Practically, this means you should make it a habit to check in with your mindset throughout the day. Pause momentarily, even amidst activity, and observe your thoughts and feelings. Are they still aligned with your purpose and confidence? If you find your mind has drifted - maybe you caught yourself worrying about something or dwelling on a negative appearance - gently and firmly steer it back to the truth. Remind yourself of your vision. Recall that the Creative Intelligence is with you, working through you, and that all things are working together for your good. These quick mental resets need only take a few seconds, but they have a powerful cumulative effect. By repeatedly reaffirming the Certain Way of thought while you move through various tasks, you eventually stabilize that state as your default mode.
One common pitfall is hurry and anxiety. When the pace of life picks up, you may feel the urge to rush or to fret. But as I cautioned in The Science of Getting Rich, hurry is the manifestation of fear and lack of faith. You cannot think clearly or creatively when you are in a state of haste. So even while you move quickly to handle responsibilities, cultivate an inner sense of calm timing. Refuse to be stampeded mentally. Move swiftly when you must, but let your thought remain poised and certain of the outcome. Remind yourself that you have all the time you need, because the Creative Intelligence governs time when you work with It.
Another challenge can be the influence of others’ thinking. As you go about your work, you may be surrounded by co - workers, family members, or acquaintances who are thinking in ordinary ways - perhaps full of worry, cynicism, or competition. Do not let their mental atmosphere derail yours. This does not mean you argue or try to change their mindset (unless they seek to learn); it means you firmly hold to your own Certain Way of thinking. Be in the world, interacting and respecting all, but not of the world in terms of negative thought patterns. Often, by maintaining your positive, faith - filled mindset, you will subtly elevate those around you without a word. At the very least, you will protect your own creative vibration from dilution.
To think in the Certain Way while moving also implies that you keep your vision constantly in view, even as you focus on immediate tasks. For instance, if you are building a business, every small task - sending an email, organizing files, meeting a client - should be performed with the larger vision of your successful enterprise in mind. You mentally link each action to your purpose. This prevents the feeling of drudgery or disconnect. Instead of saying “I’m just doing paperwork,” you think, “I’m laying another brick in the foundation of my dream - and I’m grateful.” When you maintain this perspective, even mundane actions become charged with power and meaning. You infuse the quality of purpose into everything. And as I wrote in The Science of Getting Rich, “every act, however small, has its place in the development of the enterprise.” No effort is wasted if it is performed in the Certain Way.
In sum, inner stability amidst outer activity is the goal. You become a person who can handle a flurry of tasks, interruptions, and challenges without losing the inner connection to source or the inner image of where you are going. Such mastery does not develop overnight; it comes with practice. But each time you catch yourself falling into worry or reacting to appearances and then consciously shift back to creative thought, you build mental muscle. Over days and weeks, you will find that you recover your centered mindset faster and hold it longer. Eventually, you will move through events that once would have upset you and remain unmoved inwardly - stable in an element below the surface agitation.
Remember that circumstances do not dictate your thinking - your thinking dictates your circumstances. By thinking in the Certain Way while you act, you effectively imprint each action with creative power. You are continually impressing your desires and confident expectations upon the formless substance, even as you engage with the forms around you. This dual activity is not as difficult as it may sound; it becomes natural with repetition. In fact, it yields a wonderful state of flow: you become highly effective in action because your mind is anchored in truth, and you become serene in thought because you are simultaneously taking action. Doubt has no room to breed because you are proving your faith with works, and fear has no time to take hold because your mind is busy holding to purpose and gratitude.
By keeping your thoughts certain and positive while you move, you ensure that each step you take is firmly on the creative plane, not the competitive or reactive plane. You remain the master of your conditions, not their servant. Often, others will marvel at how easily or “luckily” you achieve results, unaware of the inner work you are doing. Make this practice so habitual that it becomes as automatic as breathing. Then you will truly move through life as a powerful creator, thinking and acting in harmony with the certain laws of success.
Immediate Action
Pick a simple daily activity (such as your commute, a household chore, or a routine task at work) and use it as a mindfulness trigger. Each time you perform this activity, practice holding a positive thought about your goal or silently affirming your faith (e.g., “I am on the right track, everything is working for my good.”). This trains you to maintain a creative mindset even during mundane tasks.
If you find yourself getting mentally off balance during a busy day, stop and practice creative breathing: as you inhale, reaffirm your purpose (imagine your vision vividly); as you exhale, release any tension or anxious thought. Do this for a few breaths to recenter your mind. Then proceed with your work, carrying that renewed sense of calm and certainty.
