Layoff First-Seven-Days Plan
A stabilizing checklist for the first week after job loss.
Job loss is an event. Do not let it become a verdict.
Seven-day stabilizer
| Day | Action | Done? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Read documents. Do not sign what you do not understand. Save contacts, benefits information, severance papers, and final pay details. | ||
| Day 2 | File for unemployment or relevant benefits if eligible. | ||
| Day 3 | List cash, bills, deadlines, health coverage, and household risks. Tell trusted people directly that you are looking. | ||
| Day 4 | Update resume, references, and proof of work. | ||
| Day 5 | Build a simple tracking sheet for applications and calls. | ||
| Day 6 | Apply steadily, not wildly. Contact people who know your work. | ||
| Day 7 | Reset the rhythm: search, apply, contact, move the body, handle one household task, and stop before panic turns the day into fog. | ||
| Week 2 | First follow-up list. |
First rule
Do not disappear from the people who know your work.
