A Forecaster book proposal
By Kevin L. Michel
Digital PDF edition

Life & relationships · A BOOK PROPOSAL

KINDNESS IS A THREAT

Why Caring Became Political, and How to Stay Human Anyway

A proposed examination of compassion when people disagree about the causes of suffering and the responsibilities that follow. The book would distinguish humanitarian concern from agreement with a government, movement, or policy, and explore why audiences can interpret the same statement in different ways. Children’s media, public figures, family conversations, and humanitarian principles would provide settings for examining moral consistency, group identity, and the emotional demands of caring. Rather than prescribing a political position, the inquiry would consider how people describe needs accurately, acknowledge uncertainty, maintain relationships through disagreement, and understand the differences between neutrality, impartiality, and indifference.

The idea behind the book +

Coverage of Ms. Rachel’s September 2026 SubwayTakes appearance records discussion of children, detention, Gaza, and children’s television. The ICRC’s fundamental principles and the Convention on the Rights of the Child provide separate reference points for examining humanitarian concern. The proposed book would explore differing interpretations of public statements without treating care for children as an endorsement of a political actor or policy.
