Life & relationships · A BOOK PROPOSAL
How to make room for people when adult life keeps getting in the way
This proposed book would investigate why meaningful relationships can be difficult to sustain even when people care deeply about one another. It would examine the practical ingredients of connection: proximity, repeat encounters, low-pressure invitations, reciprocity, and repair after long silences. Readers would be invited to design social routines that fit real constraints, including work, disability, parenthood, and distance, while questioning the idea that friendship should succeed without deliberate time or communal spaces.
The WHO Commission on Social Connection's June 2025 report describes loneliness and isolation as widespread concerns with effects on individuals and society. Its focus on practical approaches to connection gives this proposed book a timely public context.
