Restraint and Courage
Responding to Evil
A short Ma’at meditation on responding to evil, truth, and the discipline of right living.
If another does evil to you, do not mirror his deeds.
To meet darkness with darkness only deepens the night.
Resist the urge to strike back in kind; instead, stand firm in the light of Ma’at.
Repay cruelty with fairness, and hatred with dignity.
This is not surrender to wrong, but rising above it.
By not becoming what you hate, you break the cycle.
One who stays righteous in the face of wickedness is shielded by the unseen.
In the contest between good and evil, one heart steadfast in good can tip the balance.
